Flash Week – Virtual NES

6 03 2009

Today, I bring you the motherlode of flash technology…in my opinion, the reason flash was meant to exist.  (Okay, not really, but it’s really cool!)  Virtual NES!  Being the last day of Flash Week, I thought it would be good to go out on a bang, and give you the opportunity to not only play just one game, but over 100 games, all released on the Nintendo Entertainment System we know and love.

Some games are a little buggy, but it’s a great way to enjoy your old favorites (and try some games that you never heard of before) from any browser, anywhere.  So thanks for following me during the first Flash Week of 2009, and I’m already looking forward to the next!

Christmas in February. 8-Bit Christmas, at least…

8-Bit Jesus CD CaseSo I just got my physical copy of Dr. Octoroc’s 8-Bit Christmas and I’m loving the design of the case and the detail put into the artwork.  Excellent work all around.  You know I love the music, so I won’t go too much into that, but seriously, if you like chiptunes at all, or if you’re just a huge fan of the old NES days, you should get this album to dork out during the Christmas season.

Jesus Saves! Everyone else needs to roll for damage.

Jesus Saves! Everyone else needs to roll for damage.

Then you ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY have to get this free download from doctoroctoroc.com, called 8-Bit Jesus, which is all chiptune Christmas music in the theme of your favorite NES games.  My favorites thus far are “Carol of the Belmonts” and “Ryu the Red-Nosed Ninja.”

Man, this is awesome.

For Those About to “BARF!” We Salute You

19 11 2008

So today was another Rock Band day with friends Justin, as well as Natalie.  We had a great time, and like always, rocked it hard.

However, after friends left, and kids were put to bed, I didn’t quite want to end my gaming night.  So I turned on the Wii, and loaded up the Virtual Console game (originally on the Nintendo Entertainment System):

River City Ransom.

And while I remember playing it as a kid, I don’t think I had ANY idea what I was doing.  Tonight, however, was a different story.  I beat it.  (YAY!!!)  Which was a very cool experience.  The whole game took me probably about 3 hours to beat.  (Although knowing what I’m doing now, I’m pretty sure I could get that under one hour a next time.)

But it brought back many nostalgic memories, playing an old NES game that I had as a kid… What about you peeps?  Any games that you never finished that you feel should be dusted off at some point?  What game makes you wax nostalgic?
